Have you ever missed a big event that everyone else saw and talked about for years to come? What was it?
Why do you think Thomas was not with the rest of the disciples Easter night when Jesus appeared to them?
Frederich Buechner once said, “Not the least of my problems is that I can hardly even imagine what kind of an experience a genuine, self-authenticating religious experience would be. Without somehow destroying me in the process, how could God reveal himself in a way that would leave no room for doubt? If there were no room for doubt, there would be no room for me.” How has doubt and faith worked together in your life? Is there a place for healthy doubt?
When Thomas confesses, “My Lord and my God!”, this is the only time that Jesus is addressed as God in the 4 gospels. Thomas goes from doubter to groundbreaking proclaimer of Jesus’ true identity. Has God ever worked through your doubts and brought you to faith? What was that experience like? What have you found helpful when dealing with doubts?
