    Mark 2:13-17

    1. Would you rather have someone you love be disappointed with you or angry with you? Why?

    2. Matthew (also called Levi) would have certainly been a disappointment to his parents, turning from a strong Jewish household to a profession filled with greed and ethnic betrayal. Have you ever experienced being a disappointment to your parents? Disappointment with your kids? What got you through it?

    3. One of the beautiful things about Jesus is his ability to see below the surface with love, thus healing shame. Have you ever had an experience of Jesus loving you through your shame?

    4. The disciples who were fisherman may have paid inflated taxes to Matthew for years. How do you think they felt when Jesus called him? Why did he do so? Have you ever resented Jesus calling a particular person? What can we do to see that person differently?
