    Mark 6:1-6a

    1. Describe your “hometown”. What makes it “home” and what was it like to live there?  Have you been back to it recently?  What’s changed?  What’s still the same?
    1. The Nazareth in which Jesus grew up was a small, out of the way town. What kind of changes did people see in Jesus when he returned?  Why did they respond in such a negative way?
    1. Look back at Matthew 5 and list the miracles that Jesus has performed before he came home. What kind of faith or lack of faith is present in those accounts?  Contrast that with the condition of the people of Nazareth where verses 5 and 6 say “He could not do any miracles, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.  And he was amazed at their lack of faith.”  What role does a person’s faith have to do with Jesus’ ability to perform miracles?
    1. If you’d received the kind of reception Jesus did, how would you feel toward them afterwards? Read John 19:19-22.  What light does this text shed on how Jesus actually felt toward his home town?
    1. What part of your faith limits Jesus because you know him so well? Where is the Lord challenging you to let Jesus be more in your life than you imagined?  Pray about that this summer.
