PALM SUNDAY – Luke 19:28-48

1. Have you ever been part of a peaceful protest, marched for a cause, picketed or in some way fought against injustice? What motivated you to participate and what was this experience like for you?

2. The occupying Romans were masters of power on display, using intimidation, soldiers, prison and torture to rule by fear. How do we see this same understanding and application of power in our world today? How do we participate in the systems of power that control and threaten people?

3. As Jesus was heading into Jerusalem and then into the temple, he was saying, in effect: King me or Kill me. Is this the same choice Jesus gives us? Why or why not? How does God long for us to respond? What gets in the way?

4. It must have been quite a sight, with local people spreading their cloaks on the road and Jesus accompanied by a crowd of his disciples. Jesus had spent so much of his ministry avoiding this kind of attention. Why did Jesus choose this time and setting to be received in this way, by so many people?

5. Why were the disciples loudly worshipping Jesus and filled with joy as Jesus entered Jerusalem? What do you think they were anticipating would come next?

6. Christ’s invitation in the entrance into Jerusalem, in his instructions to his disciples at the last supper and as he was arrested, and in his sacrifice all point to us. Will we follow in his footsteps? What is one step, one act, one way to apprentice to Christ’s way of life, for you, this week?

*Pray for one another, and check in during the week. Pray for eyes to see, ears to hear, hearts to listen, discover and learn.
