May 23, 2021 Study Notes

  1. Prior to Pentecost, the disciples knew Jesus personally and, of course, were very familiar with the key events of Jesus’ life (teaching, death, resurrection.)  What changed for them with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost (Acts 2)?  Is there anything in your personal Christian journey that parallels their experience?
  2.  In his message, Tyler stressed freedom, life, and peace (Rom 8) as markers of the Spirit-filled life. Do you see evidence in our culture (advertising for example) that people really do hunger for these things, even if they don’t connect them directly to the Gospel?  Examples?
  3. Romans 8:1-6 contrasts the Spirit-directed life with the “flesh”-directed life. Paul goes into greater detail on this theme in Galatians 5:16-26. Have you personally experienced this tension? What are habits or disciplines that you’ve found helpful in veering toward the Spirit-directed life?
