John 11: Resurrected to New Life
- What do we learn from this passage about the relationships between Mary, Martha, Lazarus and Jesus? How do Mary’s response (remaining inside, not coming out to greet Jesus initially) and Martha’s response (going out to greet Jesus, engaging him with her disappointment) differ – and confirm what we have learned about them in Jesus’ previous encounter at their house?
- Martha shows incredible faith in Jesus, declaring her belief in his identity as Jesus the Messiah. When did you first recognize that Jesus was the Redeemer and accept him as Lord of your life? How did that change your life?
- Jesus says that he recognizes his sheep and they know him; that his sheep know his voice. Do you know the voice of Christ when you hear it, in your own life? How do you discern when Holy Spirit is nudging, guiding, teaching or speaking to you? Is this a source of frustration or encouragement for you? How can we be listening more and more to the voice of Christ in our daily lives?
