Henry Drummond (a 19th Century Scottish evangelist) came up with “8 Steps in Discerning the Will of God.” 1) Pray; 2)Think; 3)Talk to wise people, but do not regard their decision as final; 4)Be aware of the bias of your own will, but do not be too much afraid of it either; 5)In the meantime, do the next best thing, for doing God’s will in the small things is the best preparation for doing it in the great things; 6)When decision and action are necessary, go ahead; 7)Never reconsider the decision once it has been acted on; 8) You probably won’t find out until afterward, perhaps long after, that you have been led at all. What gives you hope in those steps? Challenge?
