Follow Along with the Message

These questions reference Isaiah 43:1-7.

  1. This is one of the more fairly well-known passages of Isaiah. Is it familiar to you? Do the images or words stand out for any reason?
  2. Would this be a good verse to memorize? Why or why not? Has scripture memorization been a part of your spiritual practices?  Consider memorizing this or another meaningful passage during Lent.
  3. If you had never heard from God – not through the prophets, the written word, prayer or in any other way…and, in fact, you knew that God hadn’t spoken a word to anyone for over 150 years…and then God DID SPEAK…what would you expect God to say? (an explanation, a reassurance, an expectation, a new set of rules, etc…). What assumptions go along with your expectation? What does it say about who you believe God to be?
  4. Who in your life has promised to be with you? Has anyone ever lived up to that promise? If so, how? If not, how have you coped with that?
  5. What does it mean to you that God promises to be with you in all circumstances? Has this been something you have seen/heard/experienced in real time? How has this impacted your faith journey?
