Joy

For the third week of Advent, Rev. Jake Medcalf delivered an inspiring sermon taking the audience into the 'upper room' where Jesus prepared his disciples for their mission. He emphasized the importance of joy, defining it as a pervasive sense of well-being infused by hope and grounded in the goodness of God. Rev. Medcalf explained how joy, as demonstrated by Jesus, is crucial for carrying out God's work in the world. He outlined challenges that rob us of joy like hurry, comparison, and hubris, and provided practical steps to cultivate joy through abiding in Christ, practicing gratitude, and surrendering to God's will. The sermon concluded with a powerful call for the congregation to be joy-bringers in their communities, supported by the Holy Spirit.
