Movement Church

Following the continuation of "Origin Stories" on the early church in Acts, Jake emphasizes the need for the modern church to be an evangelistic "Movement Church" characterized by taking Christ seriously through discipleship, taking celebration seriously through joyful fellowship, and taking care for the suffering seriously through service and compassion.

Jake also highlights how the first followers of Jesus were known for their devotion to apostolic teaching, their exuberant celebrations together, and their favor with the people by caring for those in need. Jake challenges the congregation to recapture this holistic, outward-focused faith marked by ongoing transformation into Christlikeness, unashamed joy and revelry, and selfless love for non-members.

The sermon paints a vision of a church that enthusiastically shares the good news of Jesus both in word and deed, inviting the unchurched to experience God's love through their teaching, parties and care for the "sick, poor and lonely." A call for believers to be a "sent people" cooperating with God's pre-existing mission in the world.
