The Cost of Non-Discipleship
On September 15, for SPC's sermon on 'Practicing the Way,' Rev. Jake Medcalf shared his personal story of growing up in a competitive household with highly educated parents and the lessons he learned from never winning at board games. He then used the game show 'Let's Make a Deal' as a metaphor for the choices we make in life, emphasizing the high stakes of following Jesus. Jake unpacked the concept of discipleship versus non-discipleship, illustrating that embracing Jesus' offer (door number one) requires surrendering one's current life and possessions, but the cost of not doing so is far greater. He encouraged the congregation to reflect on this choice and the abundant life that Jesus promises.
