Over the last six weeks, our sermon series has focused on Jesus’ path to Jerusalem, which culminated in his death, and the resurrection we celebrate on Easter. Before we move into Acts and the birth of the church on April 14, we want to pause and reflect on our time in Luke’s gospel.
- Jesus prophesies that many who think they will be in eternity with Christ will actually be shut out. (Luke 13:22-30) What do you do with these kind of prophetic stories in the New Testament? (Ignore them? Memorize them? Mistrust them? Obey them?…) Why do you think Luke includes this teaching? Do you believe what Jesus says here?
- Both the Hebrew scriptures and the New Testament emphasize repeatedly the critical importance of worship and praise in relationship with God. How has worship shaped your understanding of who God is? (Luke 17:11-19) Does praising God have any impact on your daily experience of the world and others? Why or why not?
- It really matters to God that we trust in Him. (Luke 18: 9-14) Do you find it difficult to trust God? What is one area of your life in which you can trust God? What difference does it make to your relationship with God, when you can trust him?
- Jesus healed the blind man, but could not correct the vision of the Pharisees. (Luke 18:35-43) What do you see now, as a follower of Christ, that you might not have seen in the past? Share any practices or relationships that help you to see those things that Christ would have us see, no matter how difficult they might be to look at. How does sight move us to action?
